The grounds of the Portmore Town Centre in St Catherine was abuzz as scores of contestants turned out to audition for the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall show.

Contestants did everything to calm their nerves; some drank water while others jogged in place, to prepare for their moment in the spotlight.

"Mi decide fi tek it dis year, dat is why mi lef St Mary and go to all the auditions, until mi get selected today," Glen 'Currency' Anderson told THE STAR after a brilliant entry that gained him a 'forward'.

Tiffany 'Glamity' Carter was also given a pass. "Three years ago mi enter, but never do too well, now mi come fi go all the way," she told THE STAR.

Those who did not get through are, however, determined to make their mark at the Kingston auditions next week.

"Dem send mi home today, sey mi no have no lyrics, but next week a taking the factory with me," Marjorie Stenneth said.

Producer Natalee Parboosingh said turnout has increased since the start of the contest four years ago.

"About 600 contestants turned out today. It is quite popular, it gets bigger each year and we are pleased with the progress being made," Parboosingh said.

"I will bring my energy, style and flavour," Yanique Barrett, the 2011 host, told THE STAR while signing autographs for her fans.

Contestants are vying to win $1 million and a recording contract.

Last year's winners of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall were Bumpa and Press Fyah.
