MVP stars booked for Milo relays

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

A star-studded squad from the Stephen Francis-coached MVP track club will descend on Montego Bay this weekend. following a two-year absence from the Western Relays, they make their return at the Catherine Hall Stadium, where a big crowd is expected to be on hand.

Over the years, MVP has had a large number of their athletes competing at the meet, and it will be no different this time around, as all their leading athletes will be in attendance. In an interview with Star Sports, president of the club Bruce James stated that the meet is held at a venue their members enjoy competing at.

"All our elite athletes will compete in Montego Bay. they enjoy running there as they live and train in Jamaica, and it is good to see them running outside of Kingston," said James who stated that MVP will have four strong relay teams competing at the meet.

non-appearance

Following her non-appearance at the Queen's/Grace Jackson meet, where she was down to compete in her first race since her six-month ban, due to a slight injury, Olympic and World Championships 100-metre gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will lead a quality 4x100-metre female relay. The team will include Trinidadian Ayanna Hutchinson, world 100 metres joint silver medallist Sherone Simpson, and World Championships 100- metre hurdles champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who will be making her first appearance in over a year, following an injury.

4x400-metre squad

Foster-Hylton, Fraser-Pryce and Simpson will then team-up with Alecia Cuetner in a 4x400-metre squad, which will face members of their teammates in what is a high-powered four, with the country's top quarter milers in the line-up.

The team expected to set the track alight will be led by World and Olympic 400-metre silver medallist, Shericka Williams. Other members are World and Olympic 400-metre hurdle champion, Melaine Walker, Olympic 400-metre semi-finalist Christine Day and Golden League 400-metre hurdle champion, Kaliese Spencer, who advertised her excellent early form at the Grace Jackson/Queen's meet, where she recorded a sub 2:09 to win the women's 800 metres.

Not to be outdone, the males will also share attention with their female counterparts, as former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell and teammate Michael Frater, will make their debut appearances this season. They will join up with Ainsley Waugh and Nesta Carter in both the 4x100 and 4x400-metre relays.
