Recently crowned JIIC rural knockout champions St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) will open their defence of the 2011 Headley Cup tomorrow, at home in Santa Cruz, against little known parish-mates Newell High.

STETHS, who recently made the knockout final against traditional rivals Holmwood a one-sided affair, are expected to dominate the longer format in similar fashion.

"We are blessed with an abundance of talent, so we will have to keep alternating players," coach of the team and former player, Clive Legister, told Star Sports.

So strong are STETHS that Horane Linton, an off-spinner in the National youth team, was left out of the final eleven, who beat Holmwood by eight wickets.

His replacement Rassei Spencer showed immense quality taking 4 for 19, the best figures in the game.

Another of the newcomers whom Legister says could stake his claim is batsman Kerry Holness who, despite failing in the knockout final, should partner established Desmond Jones who scored 52.

So far, STETHS have appeared unbeatable getting past the likes of Lewisville, Cross Keys, Knox, Manning's and Manchester on their way to the aforementioned knockout final. Legister says he is not merely interested in winning a game, but to do so in a convincing manner.

"Our plan is not just to win, but to do so convincingly, as we want to send a message each time," he said.

Among the established nationally known players in the STETHS squad are captain Paul Palmer Jr, fast bowler Nicholson Gordon, Bria Gayle, Donovan Nelson, Cassius Burton Jr, Vanfield Broomfield and Krishna Graham.
