Man to face court on theft charge

A man who allegedly stole a BlackBerry valued at $45,000 had his $200,000 bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is 18-year-old Andrew Gowan who has been charged with robbery with aggravation.

He is to return to court on February 11 when the matter will be mentioned, as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that on December 22, about 8:15 p.m., the accused, who was armed with a knife and travelling with two men on bicycles, robbed the complainant of her silver BlackBerry and then made an escape along Half-Way Tree Road.

It is alleged that after the complainant found out that her smartphone's messenger was still active, she made a request with another phone to her original pin number and it was accepted.

A photograph of the user profile of the person using the stolen phone came up and the complainant allegedly recognised the accused.

It is further alleged that the complainant continued to communicate with the accused and made arrangements to meet with him in Half-Way Tree square; where the accused turned up and was held by the police.

After searching the accused, the complainant's silver BlackBerry was retrieved and he was arrested and charged.
