A background check was ordered to be made on the man accused of picking pockets in downtown Kingston on December 15 of last year, when he reappeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. The defendant, Karl Miller, from a Tavares Garden address in Kingston, was remanded and will return to court on February 14 for trial. The court also advised that the investigating officer in the matter visit Miller's former high school in an attempt to verify his identity. Miller is charged with larceny from the person. Allegations are that on December 15 a report was made to the Harbour Street Police Post by a man who said his wallet with $20,000 was picked from his pocket at the intersection of Harbour and King streets. A description was given of the possible suspect. Police went to the intersection, saw Miller, requested to search him and found US$12 (J$1,032), C$5 (J$420), and J$13,540 on him. When asked how he came by the money, Miller reportedly said he received the cash from his relatives overseas. |
