The negotiating skills of a man who was initially fined $4,000 or 10 days for possession of an offensive weapon were put in full effect in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The defendant, Ottoto Chambers from Maxfield, Kingston 11, successfully convinced Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, to lower his fine from $4,000 to $2,000.

"Ms Pusey, Ms Pusey, me only have $1,500," Chambers said repeatedly as he was being escorted from the courtroom by police officers.

RM Pusey then advised Chambers to add an additional $500 to increase the fine to $2,000 and she would entertain his request.

Chambers had been fined $4,000 after an ice pick was taken from him by a police team that was on patrol on Maxfield Avenue on December 3 of last year.

The investigating officer in the matter, Sergeant Stanford Riley, displayed the weapon in court and explained that Chambers had allegedly told him that he had the weapon as he used it to open his door.
