Two men accused of breaching the Cyber Crimes Act were remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

They are Shawn Smith and Joscelyn Clarke who are to return to court on February 16 when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that on January 7, the police received reports that persons at a prominent hotel in Kingston were using fraudulent credit cards to make reservations at the hotel. As a result it is reported that when the police visited the hotel, both accused were apprehended.

It is alleged that investigations done by the police led them to a 2006 Honda motor car registered to a car rental company which Smith had rented with a fraudulent credit card. Further checks so led the police to another car rental company where Smith allegedly used a fraudulent credit card to rent a grey 2010 Suzuki Vitara motor car. It is alleged that this vehicle was not returned to the car rental company.

It is reported that between August 24 and 31 last year Clarke rented another car from a different car rental company in a different name using a fraudulent credit card.

Allegations are that Smith is in a number of fraud cases where he rents vehicles using fraudulent credit cards and then sells them to unsuspected buyers.
