More than 80 students were rewarded for hard work, over the last Christmas term, at an awards ceremony at Independence City Primary School recently.

Acting Principal Audrey Young, congratulated all the students who did well enough to be awarded on this special occasion. She also implored the other students that they can truly achieve through hard work and dedication.

Specially invited guest Colin Fagan, member of parliament for South East St Catherine, encouraged the awardees to continue the good work. He also gave out trophies to the most outstanding students.

Others received awards for being most improved.

Meanwhile Abigail Meghoo, a young songbird at the school, got the crowd in the mood for worship with her gospel selection.

Councillor for the Independence City division Keith Blake and chairman of the school board, Eric Douglas, gave greetings.

In the meantime, Young said after the function that the school thought it was a worthy gesture to reward children who have done consistently well since September 2010, and "hopes that this will motivate them and others to follow."<
