Freedom in salvation

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

It took Sunday school teacher Samantha Smalling five years to get baptised, following her conversion to Christianity at age 15; that decision was made after she started walking with Jesus at the Shop Hill Full Gospel Open Door Assembly.

"I got saved at the age of 15 but was submerged in water at the age of 20. I knew about the truth of God, but I wanted to be fully ready to be submerged under water," said Smalling.

The five-year wait was not born out of the desire to live a less than Christian life, instead, she said her decision was made because she really wanted to be fully prepared.

Since her baptism, Smalling said God has been working a lot in her life.

"Jesus has helped me through many circumstances, including when I experienced financial problems. Sometimes you do not know where the money will be coming from, and somehow Jesus just seems to provide the right person at the right time," said the Sunday school teacher.

She recalled attending university and not having money to take care of her expenses. However, her faith in God helped her in the change of fortune and she was able to complete her studies.

"I just don't know where the money came from and dropped in my bank account, but I had to give God thanks for it because at that time things were very difficult for me," said Smalling.

She said it is important for all Christians to tell others about Christ and His love, so that they too can benefit fully from the love which He has for all of us.

The Sunday school teacher, said it is good for young children to be a part of the activities of the Sunday school, as she believes that when this is done the teachings will live with them for a long time, and when thoughts of doing wrong come about they will know how to deal with them.

Sunday school, she said, allows for discussion with children at their level, as efforts are made to get them to understand the teachings in the simplest possible form, while learning is made interesting.

"It also makes the children learn important things from early in life; things which can help them even when they get old; because when they get old they will not depart from what they know about the Lord," asserted the Sunday school teacher.

She says she has never given any thought of giving up duties, because as a servant of God she wants to be used to fulfil her calling.
