![]() ![]() Contributed - Copper Cat Artistes voice disappointment On Thursday night, several entertainers and members of the music industry turned up at Richie Stephens' house, off Waterloo Road, St Andrew for the nine night of slain artiste Copper Cat. The nine night came to an early end however, when police arrived and turned off the music just before 3 a.m. Those present voiced their disagreement with the police as they could not believe that in their time of mourning, the police could not see them through. The likes of Vegas, Fantan Mojah, Ricky Trooper, Cutty Ranks, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Fambo, and Tony Matterhorn were among some of the many entertainers present. Speaking with THE STAR Fambo said, "Wi just miss Copper and wished that the nine night could've continued and the music play likkle longer. The police should've used their discretion and say turn it down because it was for a good cause. But who are us to go up against the government of Jamaica?" Fantan Mojah also gave his account of the night saying, "Di whole a wi just deh deh a hold a vibe and a mourn the loss of Copper, when them just come and lock off the thing. Everybody did deh deh, a mussi few people mi neva see." Adding, "A few days before dem put him (Copper Cat) to rest enuh, mi neva yet see a deadyard a lock off yet still and Richie (Richie Stephens) a big man inna di country, dem man deh do a whole lot for the music industry. Dem a pressure the music too much man. Mi know annuh inna fi dem control because dem probably get talk from the bigger heads but a mean, is a nine night and everybody in mourning, dem neva haffi lock it off." Twenty-two year-old Copper Cat, who was the adopted son of Richie Stephens was shot dead by gunmen on Cassandra Avenue off Waterloo Road on January 20th. It was reported that the deejay was about to open his gate on Cassandra Crescent at about 10:30 p.m., when he was pounced on by armed men who shot him. The gunmen reportedly stole his BlackBerry mobile phone. His funeral service will be held in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland today. |
