Inspired by the recent tragic death of rising dancehall artiste Copper Cat, dancehall 'bad gyal' Ce'Cile, has penned a song called 'Rise Up'. The profound and heartfelt lyrics call upon Jamaicans to do better, stop the needless killing and help Jamaica be a better place.

In the song she says: "We haffi rise up, haffi wake up/Look pan wi good country we mashing up/If we want things fi better/We haffi talk up/You just as bad if u keep your mouth shut/Nah keep no waste man round me (round me)/ You nah go find dem de man de round me (round me)/ A you fi blame if you keep dem company (dat me say)/Right now/ Nuff a oonu guilty!"

The song is on Don Corleon's Message rhythm and is the singer's second release for the new year. Ce'Cile also released a love song on Arif Cooper's Communications rhythm recently .

Rise Up also tells the story of what Ce'Cile said she was doing on January 21, the night after Copper Cat, born Demar Graham, the former student of Jamaica College turned entertainer, was senselessly gunned down at his gate and robbed of his cellular phone. Some of the lyrics of the song reveal just what Ce'Cile had planned to do when news came that the entertainer was gunned down.

She said she had gone to see producer Don Corleon. She wanted to do a love song but the noted producer suggested that she do a 'culture' song instead. The song's lyrics flowed from that encounter:

"Me just wanted fi sing a love song/Pan a big bad riddim so me drive go link Don./Him say Ce'Cile/ yo we haffi find a plan/ Gwane hold a meds mi want you gi di people a culture one. So me look in a self, dem say word is power/Dat mean mi powerful with every note mi utter/With this power that I've gained/If one life me caa change/Then I shouldn't even bother!"

truthful

"I wrote truthfully from every angle," she said. "I wanted it to be real. I don't do culture, it's not the first thing that flows through my head," she said.

She revealed that she wasn't sure about writing it at first because she wasn't sure people would take her seriously. "I said to Don if he was sure people wouldn't see it as a joke. Pressure (the entertainer) interjected saying that people listen to my love songs so who better to write it," Ce'Cile revealed. "So I just sat there and that's what came to my mind."

She explained that she had just seen Copper Cat a few weeks before. "I was in his house shooting an Ity and Fancy Cat special some months before so I just said 'what could I do to make a difference and that's what I wrote."

The lyrics flowed from her as quickly as the life poured from the fatal gunshot wound that claimed Copper Cat's life. "Everything I wrote was what I thought - line for line," she said. "It took me about 15 minutes. I wasn't able to write to this rhythm for about four months and I had just written a love song on it and it took me 15 minutes to pen this culture track."
