Work on installing the new track at the National Stadium is said to be 20 per cent complete and well on course to meet the end-of-February deadline set for its completion.

Concerns regarding the state of readiness of the facility has already caused the postponement of one major meet, the Gibson relays. The relays were eventually moved to the G.C. Foster college, switching places on the calendar with that institution's G.C. Foster Classic.

However, according to Indepen-dence Park, caretakers of the stadium facility, extra effort is being put in to ensure there are no further disruptions to this season's track and field schedule.

"We are making good progress and are on target to completing the installation of the new stadium track by the end of February," said general manager of Independence Park Limited, Major Desmon Brown, in a press release issued by the facility yesterday.

"Work crews are putting in 10 hour days and working seven days a week," he added.

Work on the stadium is being conducted by German track manufacturers BSW, who were also responsible for the building of the Usain Bolt track at the University of the West Indies, Mona Bowl. Among other events, in addition to hosting the National Trials later this year, the National Stadium will also host the Jamaica Invitational International next month.
