The removal of a roof, a missing window and damages done to a tenant's utensils, among other things, resulted in her landlord having to answer questions in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday. The defendant, Glenmore Compass, from the Corporate Area, who is charged with malicious destruction of property, had his bail extended and is to return to court on February 7. The complainant was also bound over in the matter. The complainant told the court that on the day of the incident, she had left home to carry her daughter to school and when she returned, "three quarter of the roof gone." She also explained that rain fell and damaged her belongings which were still inside the house. In his defence, the defendant explained to the court that the woman had asked him to do repairs to the roof because it was leaking and so he set out to begin repairs by removing the roof on the day. Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey later advised the complainant to calculate the cost of damages done to her possessions and return with that estimate on the next court date. Interestingly, the complainant referred to the defendant as the ,"so called landlord," while the defendant told the court that the complainant was not really his tenant because she was actually staying with someone on the premises. |
