Drug mule remanded

A man who was caught with four pounds of ganja (1.82kg) in his possession at the Norman Manley International Airport recently, was remanded in custody until February 15 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The defendant, Jason Allen, pleaded guilty to possession of, dealing in, and taking steps to export ganja and is to be sentenced on his next court date.

Allen later told the court that he is 22 and lives in Westmoreland.

The court delayed sentence on the day as a request was made for the defendant's antecedents to determine if he has previous convictions.

The court then heard that on January 19 at about 11:15 a.m., the defendant checked in to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to Trinidad when his luggage was searched by security personnel.

The search of the defendant's luggage revealed five rectangular parcels containing vegetable matter resembling ganja weighing about four pounds (1.82kg).

After the discovery was made, the court heard that the defendant reportedly told the police officer who conducted the search that "mi rate you boss, mi neva know you coulda find it, you too good."
