RAYMOND GRAHAM, Star Writer THE final set of matches in the preliminary round of the JNBS/ JNA Open League Netball competition, will be played at the Leila Robinson Court today, starting at 1:15 p.m. Some 35 games are on as teams search for places in next Monday's quarter-finals, the final opportunity for teams to advance. The match of the day will be in the elite Group A, as co leaders Jamalco and Tivoli "A", both on 18 points, will feature in a mouth-watering clash. Both teams, who are unbeaten so far, with their points coming from six wins. Jamalco have a better goal difference after scoring some 267 goals, while conceding 89, with their rivals scoring 211 while allowing just 73. Both teams have several past and present national players in their line-ups and following the Sunshine Girls' excellent performance a week ago in their final match against world number one Australia, most of them will parade their skills once again in the encounter which starts at 7:00 p.m. The Jamalco team showed their depth last weekend as they had an impressive 41-2 win over Jetsetter "A" without seven of their top players, who were on national duties and they will start favourite to win today. Their line-up will be spearheaded by accurate goal shooter Romeldo Aiken who was in awesome form against the Australians. aggressive play Other players include centre Nadine Bryan, wing defence Nicola Aiken, goal attack Marsha Murphy, Sasha-gaye Henry, Nardia Brown and the vastly improved Kamika Sherwood. Tivoli "A" will be led by former national player and coach, Oberon Pitterson along with ace goal shooter Cleopatra Grant and Peta-gaye Thomas. Tivoli will miss the aggressive play of defensive player Kasey Evering, who is back in New Zealand to play club netball and her absence will be a big loss to the Tivoli team. |
