Leana Thorpe, Past Principal of Bridgeport Infant, was honoured by the school for her 31 years of dedicated service to the institution during a special function at the Portmore Seventh-day Adventist Church recently.

Thorpe started working at the institution in September 1978, and served with pride and made a lot of sacrifice which cost her precious time with her family.

She will now use her retirement to spend more time with her family and do the things that she was not able to do while being principal of Bridgeport Infant.

Marcia Parrish, the current principal, welcomed the audience to the functionand lauded her predecessor. The political community and the education ministry was well represented.

Tributes rang out for Thorpe from member of parliament for South East St Catherine, Colin Fagan; Deputy Mayor of Portmore Owen Saunders, the councillor for the Braeton division; while Mary Nichols, the regional director for Region 6, offered words of praise from the Ministry of Education.

Former Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) President Ena Barclay gave tributes on behalf of the JTA. Karen Kennedy, principal of Portmore Community College (PCC), also gave encouraging words to the veteran educator.

Present and past students of the school gave tributes in songs and sign language. Past student Danielle Campbell, now a student at Wolmer's High, did a violin piece that was well appreciated by the audience. She was also the organist for the evening.
