A policeman was found dead in a motel room along Port Henderson Road, Portmore, St Catherine, yesterday.

He has been identified as Constable Carl 'Robbie' Robinson, who was stationed at the St Catherine South Division, but has been on interdiction for some time.

When THE STAR visited the scene, scores of police personnel converged all expressing sadness at the death of their colleague, who they claimed was a very good crime fighter. "It was yesterday that I was asking some of the detectives for Robinson and look what happen now," Superintendent Colin Pinnock, head of the St Catherine South police said.

Mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, who visited the scene, said it was a very sad day in the municipality. "When you are trying to build progress in a community and things like these happen, it makes it a more difficult task," Hinds told THE STAR.

Reports are that about 3 p.m. the body of the policeman was found in a room on the upper floor of the guest house. He had a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The police have ruled robbery as the motive of the murder as Robinson's Toyota Altis motor car and his licensed firearm were taken.
