Dad admits to boxing mother of his child

A man admitted in court that he 'boxed' the mother of his child in her face causing her nose to bleed because of her shortcomings as a mother.

The defendant, Richard Brown, had his bail extended yesterday, and is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 15.

Brown pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding but not guilty to threatening the complainant.

Both the complainant and the defendant were also ordered by the court to undergo counselling from probation officers assigned to the matter.

child neglect

In his defence, Brown explained to the court that he hit the complainant because she has not adjusted herself as a mother, as she continues to attend street dances regularly and neglect their child.

Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser then advised Brown that perhaps the complainant was not ready to be a mother. Brown then replied, "a three pickney she have," which amused the court.

no right

He later expressed remorse for his actions and told the court that he knew he had no right to hit the complainant but he was overcome by his concerns for his child.

Allegations are that both the defendant and the complainant were involved in a heated argument over the child which they share, which led the defendant to hit the complainant in the face. The impact of the 'box' caused the complainant's nose to bleed.

There was also a swelling to the left side of her face. The complainant was also allegedly threatened during the altercation.
