The police say they are yet to arrive at a motive behind the actions of a 22-year-old man who reportedly tried to kill the mother of his child before shooting himself.
The rather bizarre incident occurred last Thursday at house in Havendale, St Andrew, and has since become a hot topic on the lips of residents from the area who, like the police, say they are just as puzzled. THE STAR has learnt that the man at the centre of the incident is still battling for life while in intensive care at the hospital. His identification is being withheld as he has not yet been charged in connection with the episode. Reports are that about 3 p.m, the man went to the woman's house where an argument developed between them. In a fit of rage the man is said to have pulled a firearm and shot at the mother of his child. Further reports are that he then shot himself in the head, unaware that the shot he fired at the woman had missed. The police were subsequently summoned and after arriving, found the injured man, with a .38 revolver, lying on the floor. Contacted yesterday, Crime Chief for St Andrew North, Deputy Superintendent Altermoth 'Parro' Campbell, told THE STAR that the police have come up with no arguments as to what could have caused the act. Similarly, when THE STAR visited the community on the weekend, a number of residents expressed shock at the incident, saying they never saw it coming. "They're usually quiet people, and I cant say I've ever heard any arguments over that house or anything like that. I couldn't believe when I heard what happened", one resident who gave her name as Marie said. Another was quick to add, "Boy now yu see why yu cyaa judge people by dem smile. Cause dem people deh did look like everything tight and just like dat wi a hear bout murder and suicide." Efforts to get in contact with the woman involved in the incident were unsuccessful as we were told she has since moved from the community. |
