The St Catherine Cricket Association (CCA) has thrown their support behind the incumbent Paul Campbell ahead of elections to select a new president for the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA).

Campbell, who has been at the helm of the association for the past two years, is expected to face opposition from Lindel Wright when elections take place on February 9 during the JCA's annual general meeting.

"We met as a group and the decision was taken that we would support Paul (Campbell)," Cherton DaCosta, president of the CCA, stated during a press conference to launch the Sherwin-Williams Twenty20 Cricket Competition at the offices of Sherwin-Williams yesterday.

"Paul (Campbell) has been good to us and even before he became president he was showing up at our functions, at our matches and we see this as a necessary good for the parish," he added.

Campbell, who was also present at the launch, was delighted with the endorsement received from the CCA.

"It is of significant importance to have the support of the St Catherine Cricket Association," Campbell stated. "I am elated, I am thankful and I am happy for it. When you do work and people acknowledge and state that they have the confidence in you and are committed by way of their support to you, it is heart-warming," he added.

The Sherwin-Williams Twenty 20 Cricket Competition, which will commence on January 23, is sponsored to the tune of $650, 000.00. The inaugural competition will feature 16 teams, which will be separated into four zones and compete in a round-robin format.

Zone One will feature: Correctional Service Sports Club, Central United Sports Club, Dela Vega City Cricket Club and Packers All Stars Cricket Club. Zone Two comprises of Old Harbour, Church Pen, Old Harbour Bay and Connors Sports Club. Basement United, Ewarton Cricket Club, Travellers Sports Club and Point Hill Sports Club make up zone three, while Zone Four consists of Lakes Pen, Belmonth, JUTC and Kitson Town.

The eventual winners will walk away with the Championship Sherwin-Williams Twenty20 trophy and a winning purse of $80,000 and the runners-up $40,000. There will also be cash incentives for individual players and teams for outstanding performances.
