Star Tell Me Pastor

Is kissing the opposite sex wrong?

Dear Pastor,

I have a burning question. Is it a sin to kiss someone of the opposite sex? I know that having sex outside of marriage is, but I am not sure about kissing.

C.D., New York, USA

Dear C.D.,

What type of kiss are you talking about? Some counsellors discourage young lovers to kiss because of what it may lead them to do. Couples who are dating may share a good night kiss, but they should bear in mind that kissing, especially what is known as French kiss, can lead to sex, even though the couple might not have that in mind.

If a couple engages in heavy petting, including kissing, necking and petting, that couple is playing with fire. And many have crossed the line and end up having sex and become parents long before they were ready.

Self-control should always be exercised. So while I do not wish to condemn a couple who shares a kiss, I would ask them to be cautious and not be carried away by their emotional feelings.
