Jamaica crush Guyana in Carib T20

Jamaica blew away defending champions Guyana by 49 runs in Group A last night as the Caribbean Twenty20 Champion-ship bowled off at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua and Barbuda.

Set 116 for victory after winning the toss and asking Jamaica to take first strike, Guyana were bundled out for 66 in 17.3 overs.

New West Indies pacer Andre Russell was the star with the ball and he took three for seven in three overs and had one run out as Guyana had a miserable time at the crease. Krishmar Santokie got two for 10 in three overs and David Bernard Jr, two for 17, also in three overs.

The game was over as a contest from the ninth over of Guyana's innings as they slumped to 29 for five. Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul were both run out for zero and five, respectively. Top scorer was opener Travis Dowling with 14.

Earlier, Jamaica sent into bat after losing the toss, were restricted to 115 for seven in their allotted overs. Former West Indies batsman, Marlon Samuels, led the way with a patient 42 off 48 balls. He hit four fours.

Opener Bernard Jr hit 22 off 20 balls with one four and two sixes while Nikita Miller, batting at number nine, hit out late for an unbeaten 19 off 12 balls. He hit two fours. Captain Wavel Hinds was not out on 11 off 16 balls.

Offspinner Royston Crandon bagged three for 21 off four overs to emerge the most successful bowler for Guyana. His brother, Esuan Crandon, took one for 19 off four overs.

In the opening game of Group A, the Windward Islands defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges by 28 runs. Scores: Windwards 189 for three in 20 overs (Andre Fletcher 88, Johnson Charles 34; Ryan Austin two for 34). Combined Campuses and Colleges 161 for eight (Romel Currency 39 Miles Bascombe 36; Nelon Pascal two for 25).
