Two-horse Super League race

The Claro/KSAFA Super League appears set for a two-horse battle between Cavalier and August Town after two rounds of matches in the return round of the championship. The two teams scored victories on Saturday to maintain their advantage at the top.

Cavalier cruised to a 4-1 win over Constant Spring, and August Town slammed Santos 6-1. UWI climbed one place up to third after they edged Real Mona 1-0.

In other matches, Duhaney Park held Rockfort to a 1-1 draw, Rae Town and Barbican ended 0-0, while Mountain View turned back Bull Bay 2-1. Cavalier lead the pack with 31 points, ahead of August Town on 28 points. UWI moved into third with 24 points, two more than Rockfort and four in front of Santos in fifth place.

Rae Town are next with 19, followed by Barbican and Mountain View with 14, then Duhaney Park with 10, Constant Spring and Bull Bay on nine, while Real Mona sits at the bottom with eight points.

hosts' lone goal

In Saturday's matches, Jermaine Grey (35th, 72nd & 81st) led Cavalier with a hat-trick while Locksley Thompson grabbed the other in their 4-1 rout of Constant Spring. Anthony Burke netted the host's lone goal in the 50th minute.

At Bell/Chung Oval, Ricardo Munroe (33rd, 42nd & 88th) also bagged a hat-trick as August Town stayed in touch with the leaders. Shannon Pinnock, Dwayne Plummer, and André Hickling were the other scorers for August Town, who stayed three points off the pace.

At Bull Pen, Troyland Williams (32nd) and Ricardo Reid (40th) gave visiting Mountain View a 2-0 first-half lead before Anthony Burke pulled a goal back for the home team five minutes after the break.

Anthony Grant scored the game's only goal as UWI defeated Mona 1-0 at the UWI Bowl. Meanwhile, at Baldwin Crescent, home team Duhaney Park had to come from behind to tie with Rockfort after Onandi Lowe gave the visitors a 63rd-minute lead. But Anthony Britton secured a point for the host with a strike six minutes from time. The game between Rae Town and Barbican ended goalless.

Claro Major League

Over in the Major League, Greenwich Town defeated Olympic Gardens 3-0 to join the latter at the top of the table on 13 points. In other games, Allman/Woodford beat Central Kingston 1-0, Police National stopped Seaview 2-0, Stony Hill edged Shortwood 3-2 while Cooreville clipped Molynes United by the same score. Olympic Gardens, Allman/Woodford, and Greenwich Town are all tied at the top of the table with 13 points each, followed by Central Kingston and Police National with 11. Shortwood moved three places up to seventh with their win, and they are followed by Brown's Town and Shortwood on eight, with Cooreville at the bottom on five points.

In the feature game, Tyrone Davis (32nd), Orlando Barrett (57th), and Christopher Stewart (67th) scored a goal each as Greenwich fired in three unanswered goals against former leaders Olympic Gardens at Tinson Pen.

At Winchester Park, Donovan Hurd netted the game's only goal as Allman/Woodford turned back the hosts with the game's only goal in the 31st minute. Police National also scored a win after Earon Benjamin and Alwin Morgan scored a goal in each half in their defeat of Seaview. At Shortwood, Dexter Allen's brace was not enough to stop the hosts going down by the odd goal in five. Allen made it 2-0 after Fabian Hylton and Shane Franklyn gave Stony Hill a 2-1 lead. But after Allen tied the score in the 65th, Clayton Escott scored an 89th-minute goal to give Stony Hill the three points. At Cooreville Gardens, the home team scored a rare win with Shane Norman (44th), and an own goal (66th) and Odayne Burgher accounting for the host goals. Kevin Thomas (7th) and Omar Williams (85th) replied for Molynes.
