Man accused of stabbing lover and cutting cab driver offered bail

The 39-year-old man accused of stabbing his lover and cutting a taxi driver in his face reappeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday.

Dwight Codling was offered $30,000 bail from last year December, however, on Friday the court was informed that he had still not taken up his bail offer.

Codling, who is from a Kingston 20 address, is charged with two counts of unlawful wounding, two counts of malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm. He returns to court on January 24 as the medical report is outstanding.

Codling, who pleaded not guilty, told the court that the incident occurred after he went to a house and caught the taxi driver and his lover naked.

Allegations are that on November 11, about 11 p.m., a taxi operator drove the accused man's common-law wife to her gate and was in the process of assisting her with some goods out of his vehicle when Codling approached them with a knife.

kicked all over her body

It is alleged that the knife was used to cut the driver in his face and stab the woman all over her body. It is also alleged that the female complainant was kicked all over her body.

It is further claimed that Codling entered the complainant's house, where he damaged her windows with a knife. It is also alleged that he punctured the taxi driver's car tyres.

However, the accused denied the allegations and told RM Pusey that he was not guilty of the charges.
