Man found with blasting caps in luggage

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has now received a preliminary report into the incident at the Miami International Airport on Tuesday in which a man heading to Jamaica was found with hundreds of blasting caps in his luggage.

CAA Director General Colonel Oscar Derby, however, announced that the contents of the report would not be released at this time because of confidentiality matters.

The Colonel said the contents of the report would be revealed as soon as he is given permission by the US Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.

In the meantime, the name of the man is still being withheld by the authorities.

Reports are that the 37-year-old naturalised United States citizen was taken into custody after the caps were discovered in his checked luggage on an American Airlines flight from Boston to Miami.

The blasting caps were discovered after a luggage handler reported hearing a small explosion inside a piece of baggage on the tarmac of the airport.

The man has been charged with travelling in interstate commerce without a licence to carry ammunition.
