A member of the Transport Authority has been charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence, after she reportedly collected almost $300,000 to grant a road licence. Charged is Rose-Marie Sinclair-Rhooms, of a Mountain View address in the Corporate area. The Star learnt that Sinclair-Rhooms, an inspector at the Transport Authority, reportedly collected the money from a motorist whom she agreed to secure a road licence for. It is said that she demanded total payment of $290,000 for her services in securing the licence. Information are that the money was paid over to Sinclair-Rhooms in two tranches, in June and July of this year. After the licence was granted to the complainant, it was found to be fake and this resulted in the arrest and charge of the motorist in Mandeville, Manchester. As a result, an investigation was launched in the matter and it was traced back to the inspector. She said to have resigned her employment having heard that she was being investigated. She was, however, picked up at her home last week and subsequently charged by Detective Corporal Kirk Roache of Traffic Headquarters. |
