Hodges keeps Tivoli on top

Tivoli's Devon Hodges

Striker Devon Hodges' 59th-minute goal lifted Digicel Premier League (DPL) leaders Tivoli Gardens to a 1-0 win over St Georges at Lynch park and kept them atop the tables after yesterday's round of games.

However, while the for the west Kingston team was an impressive 5th in seven games, the woes continued for the Portland-based St Georges as they slumped to their 5th straight loss and remained rooted to the foot of the table. The disappointment also continued for Boys' Town, as they lost more ground in the title race, following a 1-0 loss to Village United at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.

Dino Williams netted the game's all-important goal in the 25th minute, to give 10th place Village only their second away victory of the 2010/11 season.

This was the second consecutive home game that Boys' Town were playing at the Arnett Gardens ground, in an effort to garner extra revenue. The venture has however yielded their only home defeats of the season to date.

no choice

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, however believes they have no choice.

"We have to get ourselves out the financial debt that we are in, so we have to maximise opportunities to collect revenue and right now we are not collecting any revenue at Collie Smith Drive," Price explained.

At the Effortville Community Centre, Portmore United also heaped more misery on struggling Clarendon outfit Humble Lion, following a 1-0 victory, with the lone goal scored in the 48th minute by Andrew Vanzie.

The loss was the second in a row for Humble Lion, who have now not won a match since late October. The win lifted Portmore into second place on 30 points, past Waterhouse, who were beaten 3-1 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex by Arnett Gardens.

At Compound Harbour View recovered from their slip-up against Waterhouse on the weekend with a 1-0 win over Reno. Ranique Muir's 27-minute spot kick proved to be the difference maker as the Stars of the East continued their solid run of form in the second round, joining Boys' Town on 27 points, but leapt above them into third place by virtue of a superior goal difference. Benfica missed their opportunity to move further up the league table when they were turned back 2-1 by Sporting Central.
