Residents of Manchester are reporting that there was a tremor in the parish capital Mandeville, around 1:30 p.m. yesterday. One resident who felt the tremor told THE STAR that " I was actually ironing when I felt it ... I heard it before I felt anything. I felt rumbling and I actually thought it was a van coming up," she said while laughing. The Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, confirmed the tremor and put its magnitude at 3.8 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre of the quake was located near Mile Gully in the Rio Minho-Crawle River Fault Zone Sub-area of northern Manchester. The quake had a focal depth of 10 kilometres. The unit says the tremor was felt in Manchester, St Elizabeth and St James. There was no reported damage. On Sunday, there was also a tremor measuring 3.8 in eastern Jamaica. |
