P'more roads undergo rehabilitation

The National Works Agency (NWA), which comes under the umbrella of the Ministry of Transport and Works, has started a rehabilitation project in Portmore, under the hurricane emergency programme recently.

THE PORTMORE STAR recently visited the municipality and workmen were busy patching the thoroughfare named George Lee Boulevard.

Motorists who were inconvenienced by the potholes and bad condition of the roads, said that it was an "encouraging sight to see".

"It's very enlightening that the NWA is actually working on the road. However, if they are going to fix the road, they need to fix the road good and done, because I don't want to see three months down the line when the rains fall the roads are back to square one," Kevin Reid, a resident of Portsmouth, said.

Other areas being patched include the Portmore Town Centre, close to the Portmore Mall, Braeton Parkway, and sections of the Old Braeton main road.

"This is an ongoing programme to rehabilitate roads in Portmore. There is a lot more to be done. However, once money is allocated, other areas will get attention," Keith Blake, councillor for the Independence City Division, told The PORTMORE STAR.

Blake stressed that more work would be done to Portmore roads when the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme comes on stream.
