G.C. Foster College defeated College of Agriculture Science and Education (Case) 3-0 in the Intercollegiate Sports Association Greg Garrell Knockout football final at the University of Technology on Saturday. The goals were scored by Daedrian Williams (17th), Jermaine Miller (64th) and Oshane Foote in the 86th minute. The champions dominated the first half as they had numerous attacks and it was no surprise when they took the early lead when they got a free kick near the goal line. Sanjae Whitton, who took the kick, found the unmarked Wiliams who made no mistake as he fired the ball past the defenders and goalkeeper Sean Lawrence to make it 1-0 for the Spanish Town-based team. CASE tried to get back on even terms quickly through the attacking Trevor Burrell, Clinton Clarke and Gilbert Williams but found the G.C. Foster defence led by Sanjae Whitton and Earl Bennett hard to penetrate, as the half ended with G.C. Foster 1-0 in front. attacking mood Case came out in an attacking mood for the second half, determined to get on even terms, but paid the price for having too many players up front as G.C. Foster countered through Jermaine Miller, who passed to Sediki Johnson. Johnson's shot was blocked but getting quickly back on the ball, passed back to Miller, who fired home to make it 2-0. Two goals down, the Portland-based team launched a number of attacks in a bid to pull back a goal, with Burrell, Calvin Smalling and Williams doing their best but were unable to convert. With less than five minutes to go, the G.C. Foster team put the game beyond reach, as Miller broke away and passed to Foote who fired pass the Case custodian to give his team their third goal of the match and a comfortable win. G.C. Foster will seek the double as they are also in the final of the Division I competition where they will meet the University of Technology (UTech) later this week. |
