|||||
Micheal Panchan - Rasbert Turner Division One club Frazier's Whip and major league outfit Royal Lakes created big upsets in the second round of the LIME-St Catherine Credit Union-sponsored St Catherine FA knock out tournament, at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Saturday. In the opening game, newly promoted division one club Frazier's Whip thrashed major league team, DB Basovak 4-0, through a double strike from Kemar Beckford, and a goal apiece from Sanjay Williams and Dwayne Gordon. "We have a pretty young team, most of the players played in the Manning Cup for Excelsior, Eltham, Innwood, Waterford (last season) and Spanish Town High," Rayon Gordon coach of Frazier's Whip said. He added: "I got 80 per cent performance from the team tonight (Saturday), we missed a few chances, but we scored most of our goals from set plays. We have been working on that in training. "I believe in giving the youth a chance they give you more, as they are full of energy and have a point to prove." youngest player The youngest player on the team is 15 with the oldest being 28-year-old, Errol Peart. The average age of the team is 20. In the feature match, Royal Lakes, debutants in the major league, upset last year's South Central Confederation Super league champs Meadows 1-0 in a tense affair. The dependable Orville Mullings struck the all-important goal in the 17th minute. Michael Panchan, technical director of Royal Lakes thought his team outplayed Meadows. "We played better than them (Meadows) tonight. We took a very tactical approach to the game and got the result we wanted. "This is the third straight year we are beating a super league club. In 2008, as a division one team, we defeated Naggo Head 3-1, last season we were in division one and we defeated Bodles also 3-1, now Meadows. We made the semi-finals last year and lost to Portmore United the eventual winners 2-0." |
