Cops nabbed 37 in 'Back Road' operation

The St Catherine South police took 37 people, including 23 prostitutes, into custody during an operation on Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St Catherine on the weekend.

Of the 37 persons, 14 are men who were caught soliciting sex from the women along the popular hip strip better known as "Back Road".

THE STAR learnt that the operation was launched in search of missing teenage girls, as the police say they have been receiving reports that there has been an influx of teenage sex workers along the 'strip' in recent times.

"We were in search of missing girls, some of whom are believed to be operating as sex workers along the back road," a constable who was a part of the operation told THE STAR.

Those taken into custody were taken to the Greater Portmore Police Station where they were processed and released.
