Dress for danger |

Dear Pastor,
Some people say the way women dress these days is very important, considering the society we are living in. Personally, I feel that regardless of what a woman chooses to wear, it will encourage people of the opposite sex to lust or want them. There is no study to prove that what a woman wears encourages rape. However, if a young woman wishes to dress in a way society considers inappropriate, I strongly believe it is unfair for such a person to be condemned and accused of encouraging rape. tone it down On the other hand, we live in a society where perverts and rapists are on the rise. So I think it helps if women dress appropriately. This will lower the risk of attracting rapists. And let us face it, women should not give the rapists an easy ride. M. England., Dear M., No man has the right to rape a woman even if she is walking on the road in the nude. Some women love to dress in short skirts. She should not be condemned for doing so. She should not be judged by the standard of anybody, even Christians. Many women who have been raped were fully clothed. They were not in 'pon di rivers' or short skirts or tight pants. Women have been raped coming from work in their uniforms. And they have also been raped coming from church. So what a woman wears has nothing to do with encouraging rapists. All rape should be reported and the rapist tried, and those who are convicted should be sentenced to prison for a long time. Before I go, let me add that very often people say our women are not modest. That is not true at all. Most Jamaican women know how to dress, but there are a few who behave like they have no shame at all. And they caused men to make degrading comments about them. Pastor |
