Three months for deodorant - Accused had previous conviction for shoplifting |

Michael Barnes who stole three Gillette Clear Gel roll-ons from the MegaMart wholesale store on Waterloo Road recently, was sentenced to three months in prison yesterday. Barnes received the sentence when he reappeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. The social enquiry report in the matter was also made available to the court by the probation officer assigned to Barnes' case and was reviewed by Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey before sentencing. Barnes had also revealed in court that he had previous convictions which included, possession of a offensive weapon and shoplifting. pleaded guilty He had pleaded guilty to simple larceny on his previous appearance in court. The court was informed that on the day of the incident, the security guard on duty was watching the CCTV when he observed Barnes walking into the store. Barnes went into aisles 2A and 3A, reportedly took up the roll-ons and put them in his pocket. Barnes walked back through the door where he was accosted by the security guard who searched him and took the items from his pockets. The police were called and the security guard and the accused were taken to the police station. Following investigations, Barnes was arrested and charged. |
