A man who is accused of stealing and slaughtering several cows and selling the meat had his $100,000 bail extended when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Donald Platt who is to return to court on December 8, when the matter will be mentioned, as the file is still incomplete. The complainant told the court that the value of his cattle amounts to at least $550,000. Platt on his previous appearance in court maintained his innocence against the larceny charge. Allegations are that the accused and others allegedly stole five cows from a farm at Temple Hall, on October 20 about 7:30 p.m. The cows had been slaughtered and their intestines recovered on the scene. On the same day, a truck was seen at the Port Henderson Plaza with the meat. The police were later informed of the incident and responded. Two men were allegedly seen running away and were chased and held. Platt had explained that he was a gardener who was wrongfully accused and it was a case of mistaken identity. |
