Sunday's staging of Igloo at Sugarman's Beach in Portmore was certainly different from previous months when it was almost impossible to get in. There was no longer a traffic problem or long lines to get inside the venue. All the cars were parked inside the main parking lot and not in the additional parking lot or on the road as was the case months ago. It was usually a task to move freely inside the party, but on this occasion there was a lot of space and some of it was left unoccupied throughout the night. While the turnout was significantly lower, one of the promoters, Dwayne Dacres, said this is what they wanted to achieve. "We are going for a more premium experience. We want people to party in a more comfortable environment," he told THE STAR. "To better achieve what was necessary we had to increase the entry fee, implemented more security and invest in the infrastructure for the premises." In addition to a lower turnout, the music was a bit low. The patrons were barely moving when Supa Hype played many hip-hop songs. However, with a taste of Mavado's When You Feel Lonely, it seemed as if new life was injected into the weary-looking crowd. After that, the patrons had a lot more energy as they danced to Popcaan's Dream, I-Octane's Puff It and Vybz Kartel's Touch A Button. During this segment, Chi Ching Ching took the microphone and gave the people a bit of laughter. The LIME girls were also a source of entertainment with their dancing. Richie Ras' set was filled with many quick mixes including songs like Willow Smith Whip My Hair, Beyonce's Beautiful Nightmare and Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling. Not long after he had the people getting wild as he played Busy Signal's How Yuh Bad So, Spice's Jim Screechie and Aidonia's Jack Hammer. Coppershot Disco had the people gyrating before they were taken down memory lane with dance moves like 'Bogle' and 'Signal Di Plane'. Liquid's Walk And Wine and Beenie Man and Fambo's I'm Drinking were also well received. Bringing the party to a close, Renaissance Disco continued with songs like RDX Bend Over and Busy Signal's Picante. |
