Local schools Bridgeport and Waterford High will try to wave the municipality of Portmore flags high as they contest this afternoon's ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup semi-finals at Ferdie Neita Park, Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine. Waterford battle Noman Manley in the opening game at 1 p.m., while Bridgeport oppose Jamaica College in the feature match at 3 p.m. Bridgeport will be seeking their sixth trip into the final, whereas Waterford are aiming at their maiden final. Bridgeport have won the Manning Cup twice. Last Tuesday, Bridgeport and Waterford came into their final quarter-final-round games needing important wins, and they did just that. mournful Bridgeport hammered Kingston College 5-0 and went through as the best second-place team in Group Two, a point adrift of group winner Jamaica College (seven points). Meanwhile, a mournful Waterford High team still had enough resolve to defeat St Andrew Technical High School 2-0 and topped Group One with six points, on a superior goal difference over Charlie Smith (six points). Norman Manley topped the other group with maximum nine points, after they beat Tivoli High 3-0. Waterford's goalie, Okeefe Lewis, was gunned down along with his stepfather on the morning of the match. |
