Three men freed of larceny charge

Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer

Three men accused of larceny of a motor car that was stolen in Portmore, were freed when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Those freed are Nacieve Peart, Kerron Rose and Ian Grant, all from St Ann addresses. They were charged in connection with the theft of a 1993 Toyota Mark II motor car from its owner in Portmore.

When the case was mentioned on Thursday, November 4, attorney-at-law Courtney Maxwell convinced the court that the men were innocent of the charges.

He told the court that his clients were charged after a man, who was allegedly caught with the car, said one of the men sold it to him. The lawyer said there was not a statement on file supporting the claim.

He told the court the men were never caught with the vehicle for which they were charged.

Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix agreed and freed the men by dismissing the case for want of prosecutorial evidence.

The allegations before the court are that on September 15, the men were held in Manchester following an investigation. They were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
