The battle for the rightful ownership of a house between a stepmother and her adult stepson, resulted in a fight recently at their home in Portmore Pines, St Catherine, and THE STAR was present to witness the incident. The STAR had been invited to the location by the woman involved in the incident, as she claimed that her stepson threatened to "put her out" of the house, on the basis that the house was the property of his father and not his stepmother. Both the woman and her stepson were claiming that they were the rightful occupant of the house, and they both had a right to be there. "The son seh that him fada seh him fi put me out," the woman told THE STAR. The stepmother had previously shared the home with her husband, but they separated sometime last year, and her husband moved out of the house leaving his stepson behind. She also explained to THE STAR that since her husband left the residence, her stepson has been making her life difficult. She also complained of things being stolen. The woman said that she has made numerous reports to the Portmore Police Station, "and them no tek no statement, dem no do anything." In the middle of THE STAR's interview with the woman, the stepson entered the room with a cellular phone in hand claiming, "Hello, sir, the owner of the house a ask wha you a write down? Nothing inna the house no belong to her." The intrusion was not welcomed by the woman, however, and an argument began between the two. This escalated into a fight, with both adults tangling in plain sight of THE STAR. "Come out of my room, come out of my room," the woman screamed, while her stepson replied, "come tek me out, come tek me out." He further declared: "She no own no way, tek me out, tek me out, come outta wha? A me father send me up yah so, gweh, bright, bout you a come fling thumb ... . you cudda try a million things." The stepson then left the house to make a report to the Portmore Police Station, and the woman followed some minutes later. Both parties claimed that they were assaulted. Since the incident, THE STAR has been informed that the woman has acquired the services of an attorney, and the assault matter is expected to appear before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on November 23. |
