COPS IN TROUBLE AFTER STATION QUARREL - Constable, corporal transferred following nasty confrontation

Disciplinary action is expected to be taken against a police, corporal and a woman constable who were involved in a quarrel at the Santa Cruz Police Station on Tuesday morning.

"Both officers were involved in a shouting match and both shouted disgracefully," a police source told THE STAR.

The two are said to have shouted distasteful comments at each other, at the top of their voices, in the presence of some staff members and civilians who were at the station conducting business.

"The corporal and the constable were engaged in an obscene, abusive, verbal attack on each other, which was done in full view and hearing," the police source said.

loud argument

THE STAR understands that the exchange of harsh words between the two was so loud that the quarrel was even overheard by persons at a nearby Collector of Taxes building, causing a disturbance to persons there.

It is alleged that during the conflict the woman constable was referred to as 'a whore and a worthless gal and not fit to be a police officer' by the corporal. Likewise, the woman constable apparently used some obscene language to describe the corporal.

THE STAR was also reliably informed that numerous attempts to quell the disturbance were made by other staff members, but they were unsuccessful.

"Their conduct was a disgrace to the JCF, the Santa Cruz police and themselves, and something must be done to restore the public trust in the Santa Cruz police," the police source remarked.

When THE STAR contacted the station, Inspector L. Brown confirmed the incident.

He also informed THE STAR that the incident was reported to the commanding officer for the parish, Superindentent Maurice Robinson, who is to conduct an investigation into the matter.

THE STAR later learnt from another reliable source that both officers involved in the quarrel have since been transferred to the Black River Police Station.

All efforts by THE STAR to obtain the cause of the quarrel were unsuccessful as the matter is being investigated.
