Jimmie, Star Racing Writer MORRIS POWELL's PRICELESS BEAUTY showed an appreciation for a distance of ground last Saturday and won't lose tomorrow's 10th event at a mile after her third-place finish behind HERROYALHIGHNESS and SHE'S SMOKIN. The four-year-old Canadian-bred filly won her only race at Woodbine going seven furlongs and definitely needed more ground when debuting locally at five furlongs round on August 25. She ran an even race that afternoon for fifth in a quick sprint behind REAL MINISTER BLACKIE DAVIS and THE KING AND I. Given more ground on Saturday, she kept pace in a crowded 16-horse field before turning for home fourth and running on strongest behind HERROYALHIGHNESS and SHE'S SMOKIN, who thrilled in a dead heat. PRICELESS BEAUTY comfortably had SULUMANI, THE VALIDICTORIAN, GLOBAL WARMING and WARRIOR QUEEN behind her on Saturday, leaving the late-closing PRINCE ROHAN as possibly her only threat in tomorrow's 10-horse line-up. PRINCE ROHAN's lack of pace has left him flat-footed against quicker horses who stay, rendering him without a victory since beating SHAWN'S GIRL in a non-winners-of-two event back in May. PRICELESS BEAUTY definitely has pace and she does stay, killing off any chance PRINCE ROHAN might have coming from off the pace. Richard Mitchell replacing Ameth Robles in the saddle is also a big plus for the filly. In addition, he's drawn at post-position one, not the best spot for a slowpoke, coming out of the mile chute. Weather permitting, form players should have a field day tomorrow with the fancied horses expected to outclass rivals. Champion jockey Omar Walker should win no less than three races - MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE in the first at 1200 metres, SUPER TROOPER in the fourth at 1000 metres straight and BURNING CIELO in the ninth at 1500 metres. MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE is on a hat-trick and has been working like a bomb, six furlongs in 1:14.0 Sunday morning, making him unbeatable in the opening event. SUPER TROOPER is a gift on a $180,000 tag after his decent second behind EVER BLESSED at 1000 metres round on October 9. Walker should close his three-timer with BURNING CIELO, who closed willingly for third behind SEA DEVIL and REGGAE ROCK on October 16, beaten a length and quarter in 1:19.0 at 1300 metres. Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas is on a two-timer - TURBINE in the seventh for the Royal Lancaster trophy at 1000 metres round and ODIN in the eighth at 1500 metres. TURBINE has one threat in the event, Philip Feanny's debutant, DON GEORGE, who had looked useful at exercise. However, TURBINR clocked a quicker 1100-metre workout than the debutant and gets the nod on experience. ODIN has looked awesome at exercise, six furlongs in 1:14.0 October 18 and seven furlongs in 1:29.2 a week later. |
