Businessman Garnet Miller, of a Snow Hill address in Portland, is now counting his blessings after his pickup truck slammed through a guard rail along the White River main road and landed in the sea.

The incident took place shortly before 7 a.m yesterday during heavy rains which pounded the eastern parish.

According to reports, Miller was driving his grey Nissan Frontier pickup truck, heading towards Port Antonio, when the vehicle reportedly skidded off the roadway when he attempted to negotiate a corner at White River. The vehicle slammed into the guard rail, ran on to the old railway line, which lies adjacent to the main road, before plunging into the sea.

Police sources say Miller, who was not injured in the accident, managed to kick out the front windscreen before escaping to land.

A heavy-duty wrecker, which was called in to assist, managed to pull the vehicle from the sea. The wrecker, however, in the process also got stuck in the mud and had to be pulled free by a tractor.
