Keida - Contributed Stage Name: Keida Real Name: Makeida Beckford Birth Month: September How did you get started in the business? I really didn't plan on it. I recorded my first song for Leftside, and based on the response I got from it, I just decided to continue doing music. What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet? Keeping on top of your game and making sure you're putting out fresh material all the time. What have you been up to lately? I have a new song, Bubble Up, on the 'Retweet 'rhythm for Chimney Records, another single for Chimney, Another Love, and a soon-to-be-released song for Jam 2, Dancefloor. I'm actually in the process of shooting the video for Bubble Up and Dancefloor. I also just started back the RE TV school tour. Do you look up to any specific artiste and why? All artistes are an inspiration to me. I listen to a lot of different genres but, in terms of inspiration, it's like Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley. In terms of who I look up to, it's like Tanya Stephens, Diana King and Lady Saw. Are you happy with the way things are going for your musical career right now? Yeah. Based on the material I've been putting out and the response I've been getting, I'm happy. I want to keep putting fresh material out so I can start touring soon. Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up? Stay focused on what you're doing and take advantage of the Internet in your promotions, because there are lots of ways to capitalise on it. Where do you see yourself in the future? Branching off in some type of business while doing music at the same time. Also, just bigger and better stuff where music is concerned. -Hasani Walters |
