A Nevada judge has postponed until January 24 a trial for boxing trainer Roger Mayweather on felony charges that he attacked a female boxer at an apartment he owned.

Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair in Las Vegas postponed the trial for a second time.

Trial for the 49-year-old trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr was originally delayed in August due to a scheduling conflict.

Roger Mayweather has pleaded not guilty to battery charges stemming from an August 2009 scuffle with 26-year-old Melissa St Vil.

St Vil alleges Mayweather punched and choked her until she was nearly unconscious before police arrived at the apartment where she was staying in Las Vegas.

Wozniacki on target

Caroline Wozniacki swept aside Elena Dementieva 6-1, 6-1 in the group stage of the WTA Championships yesterday putting her one win away from ensuring she will remain the world's top-ranked player for 2010.

Wozniacki of Denmark raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first set on her way to thrashing Dementieva who often had no answer for Wozniacki's strong serves and well-placed groundstrokes.

"Very nice start, definitely. I'm very happy to be through this first match," said Wozniacki, who had a 4-3 record against Dementieva coming into the tournament.

Iverson's final answer

Allen Iverson seems set for another crossover - this one from the NBA to the Turkish basketball league.

On a night another NBA season opens, Iverson will be checking his passport status. He's close to a deal to sign with Besiktas, and team executive board member Seref Yalcin is ready to meet with him this week to work out contract details.

For those close to Iverson, the idea of the All-Star guard playing in Turkey instead of braiding his cornrows for opening night is an inglorious end to a 14-year career.

"I think it's sad having him have to go to Turkey to finish his career," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said yesterday. "I wish there was some way I was in a position to help."
