( L - R ) Beenie Man, Patrick Roberts - File photos The Shocking Vibes studio is basking in its most recent achievement having copped the annual World Quality Commitment International Award. Speaking with THE STAR recently, Patrick Roberts of Shocking Vibes explained the ceremony for the awards was held in Paris, France, on Sunday. The 24th World Quality Commitment Convention Paris 2010 is part of the annual programme of BID, (Business Initiative Directions Awards), designed to recognise the prestige of the outstanding companies, organisations and businessmen in the business world. Shocking Vibes was awarded in the 'Gold' category for those companies that have been awarded for the first time without previous participation in the activities organised by this international association of companies. At the convention, business leaders are allowed to present their companies for international audience. According to www.bid-quality.com, the Gold award consists of a trophy, a certificate and a statement of quality. Roberts told THE STAR that he was made aware of the award in August but was unable to attend the ceremony in Paris on the weekend. great feeling He, however, says it's a great feeling to have been nominated and voted among 118 countries as the winner. He said, "It's just a great feeling, the fact that so many countries voted for us. It's only quality that matters in the International circuit and our professional work has shown for that." According to Roberts, this isn't the first award the company has won, having been part of deejay Beenie Man's Grammy win as well as his wins at the MOBO awards. However, he described this latest achievement as a "milestone" for the company. Having established itself as one of the top studios in Jamaica, Shocking Vibes piloted the careers of Beenie Man, Tony Gold, among others. Now Roberts says the company is in the hands of his sons, the producers of Young Vibez-Jamie and Ahkeem Roberts. He said, "Young Vibez, you know they are trying to reinvent the company, bring on a new era in music, it's time for the younger generation to carry on the legacy." - Krista Henry |
