LIME Cup golf heats up

Opeton Marshall of Advantage General in action on Day Two of the LIME Cup 2010 Golf Tournament. Marshall won his matchup against Paul Bitter of the LIME Lions.

Defending champions Buccaneers of Appleton Estate secured their second win in as many games and took another big step towards qualifying for the finals of the LIME Cup golf tournament, after a 5.5-4.5 triumph over Pure Country Springs at the Upton Golf Club, in Ocho Rios, on Sunday.

There were also crucial wins for last year's beaten finalists Advantage Generals, who themselves are within touching distance of advancement and JMMB Eagles over the LIME Lions and SportsMax Max Pak, respectively, in what was an excitingly competitive round of play at the keenly contested team match play competition.

Advantage General bettered LIME Lions 6.5-3.5 while JMMB Eagles powered past SportsMax Max Pak 7-3 to bring Round 2 to a close and set up a mouth-watering set of clashes for this weekend's third round of competition, set for Cinnamon Hill in Montego Bay.

team's failure

Buccaneers' skipper Metry Seaga was a bit concerned with his team's failure to close out the game during the latter stages of their contest but was of course, nonetheless, pleased with the eventual outcome.

"We were leading comfortably and threw away a lot of games but in the end we got the result so I am happy," Seaga said.

SportsMax Max Pak were suffering their second loss of the tournament and Radcliffe Knibbs believes that inexperience is playing a major role in their difficulties.

"Inexperience got the better of us today and with a bit more practice we will certainly bounce back. We are not out of it yet and hopefully we think things will get better going forward," said Knibbs.

anxious moments

For Sean Morris of Advantage General, there were some anxious moments throughout their contest against LIME Lions. He, however, paid tribute to the entire effort of the team in particular his higher handicapped players and the females.

"I was a bit worried at the initial stages because the team was struggling but the higher handicap players were able to come out with victories and the ladies so I am pleased with the efforts by everyone," Morris noted.

The Buccaneers of Appleton Estate are the sole leaders of Zone 1 with maximum six points, JMMB Eagles are next best having registered their first three points of the tournament while Pure Country Springs are yet to get on the points board.

In Zone 2, Advantage General are in control with six points while LIME Lions and SportsMax Max Pak remain on three and zero, respectively.

The penultimate Round Three of the tournament is set for Cinnamon Hill on October 24, while the final is scheduled for the Caymanas Golf Club, on November 14.
