JC through to second round

Jamaica College (JC) booked their place in the second round of this season's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Pepsi/ Digicel Manning Cup after registering a comfortable 4-1 win over Camperdown in their Group A encounter yesterday at JC.

Ashani Walker (16th), Kemar Prince (19th), Junior Flemmings (40th) and Jory Watson (76th) scored for JC, while Camperdown's consolation was netted by Ricardo Oldham (79th).

With the win, JC kept intact their unbeaten record and remain atop the group's standing with 19 points. They are followed by Waterford (16), who have played two games less.

This was third-place Camperdown's (10) last chance of keeping their hopes of progressing to the second round alive, but they got off to a bad start when JC's prolific goalscorer, Walker, volleyed home his 12th goal of the season in the 16th minute.

Three minutes later, Shamal Thomas did some excellent work down the left flank before crossing for Prince to head home JC's second goal. Their third goal, in the 40th minute, also came from a square, this time by Sadeki Street for Flemmings to convert.

Watson, a 71st-minute substitute, made it 4-0, five minutes after coming on.

Camperdown pulled one back in the 79th minute after a lovely through pass by Dorando Phipps was met by Oldham, who slotted past the out-rushing keeper.

JC's assistant coach, Delroy Brown, said: "Improved energy levels from my team, we really looked good today. We have showed that we are here to stamp our authority on this competition this year."

Camperdown's coach Orlando Clarke is already looking forward to next season.

"We have most of the players, so next season where we fall short in terms of experience those players should be able to use this experience and make next season more productive."
