A Kingston man who was caught at the Sangster Inter-national Airport with a stolen passport, wept bitterly when he was remanded until November 2.

Garfield Porter appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday accused of trying to leave the country for the UK on October 14, using a passport that was tampered with.

Porter, who pleaded guilty during the court hearing, had his credentials confirmed by his girlfriend who presented his electoral registration card and TRN to Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris as evidence of his identity.

However, when asked where his birth certificate was, Porter claimed that it was at the Registrar's Office in Spanish Town. "How you get travel documents without a birth certificate?" RM Harris asked Porter.

"Beg you a chance, I won't do it again, please," Porter replied, repeating his request over and over.

RM Harris ordered that Porter be remanded until November 2, during which time she will examine the requisite legislation and Porter's criminal record to determine his sentence.

A fingerprint order was also made for him and his girlfriend was instructed to bring his birth certificate at the next court date.

Reports are that on October 14, Porter was at the Sangster International Airport attempting to check in with a British passport under the name Herman Anthony Dunkley.

He was called for an interview with the investigating officer at the airport. During this time, checks were made and it was discovered that the passport had been reported stolen in England and that Porter had been deported from that country in September 2009.

When cautioned, Porter reportedly told the officer "Beg you a chance." He was subsequently arrested and charged.
