Bureau probes inmate's injuries

The Bureau of Special Investigations has launched a probe into the injuring of a prisoner who was reportedly shot while in custody at the Papine Police Station on Sunday.

Information gathered by THE STAR suggests the prisoner was shot and injured after attacking a police corporal who was watching over him and another inmate.

It is said the prisoner suddenly attacked the policeman, raining blows all over his body.

THE STAR was further told that during a subsequent tussle the prisoner was shot.

The two injured men were taken to the nearby University Hospital of the West Indies where the prisoner was admitted in serious condition and the policeman treated and released.

The policeman, who is said to be about 50 years old, reportedly received injuries to face and other parts of his upper body.
