Ganja tea drinker fined
An 88-year-old British man, who has been drinking ganja tea since he was six years old, faced the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on ganja charges yesterday.

The elderly accused, Ruel Campbell, was charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export ganja.

Campbell told the court he suffers from an illness which he has used ganja tea to treat since he was six years old. He said without regular dosage, he risked dying.

Campbell had visited Jamaica to 'tomb' his parents and after he had completed his visit to the island, he was arrested on his return trip at the airport and charged.

Campbell then explained to the court that he was given the ganja by a man in a sealed package and he did not bother to check the package as he had no knowledge that the man would give him 'too much ganja'.

The same way he received the package, that's how it remained as he attempted to return to England.

In his defence, Campbell told the court that he does not smoke ganja and he is not criminally involved with its usage either.

Campbell was fined $1,600 or six months for possession, $3,200 or six months for dealing and $8,000 or six months for taking steps to export ganja.
